Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops. – Proverbs 3:9 NIV
Imagine that your wealthy best friend has just given you $1,000,000! No strings attached. All your friend asks is that you give $100,000 of it to a mutual friend. Would you stop for even a second and say, “I don’t think so, all of the $1,000,000 is mine”? Neither would I. I would be so grateful to my friend for this provision that I would cheerfully give the $100,000 and as soon as I could.
Now think of this story in light of all that God has given you. God provides your abilities, talents, physical strength, reasoning skills, every beat of your heart, and the air for your next breath. Yes, we put in the sweat and sometimes tears, but not apart from His hand. All He asks in return is that we provide for His church in the form of a tithe. Does He need the money? No. He asks us to do it as an act of faith; an act of worship to tangibly show that we trust Him.
God will place financial resources in your hand with the expectation that you will pass them to the hand of another. You get the privilege of being involved but God gets the glory. It was His all along. He didn’t have to involve you. He could have provided for the other person directly. But He blessed you with the honor of sharing it. Isn’t He thoughtful? Isn’t He selfless? It’s amazing that He would bother with us at all! Not only does He bother with us, He loves us and sent His Son for us! We have so much to be thankful for.
